Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday expressed shock over the assassination of the previous prime minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and described him as a "nice good friend" of India who did loads to deepen ties between the 2 nations. She mentioned Abe can be sorely missed.

"I'm shocked on the assassination of Mr. Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan," Gandhi mentioned in a condolence message. "For a few years, Mr. Abe was an ideal good friend and well-wisher of India. He did a lot to broaden and deepen the bilateral relationship between our two international locations. I recall my assembly with him very fondly and vividly. It's a large misfortune that has befallen Japan and certainly, your complete worldwide neighborhood. He can be sorely missed," she mentioned.
