An Indian military soldier was arrested in a case of espionage, a police official mentioned on Tuesday.

The accused soldier Shantimoy Rana (24) was posted in Rajasthan and was honey-trapped by two girls. He shared categorized data associated to his regiment and movies of military train with them by way of social media, DG Intelligence Umesh Mishra mentioned.

"He was on the radar of the intelligence department of the state police for a while and was detained on July 25 for questioning. He was in contact with a Pakistani agent, a lady who launched herself as Gurnur Kaur alias Ankita. One other lady named Nisha was additionally in contact with him," Mishra mentioned.

He mentioned that one lady (Ankita) had informed him that she was posted in Army Engineering Service in Uttar Pradesh whereas the opposite (Nisha) informed him that she was from Army Nursing Service.

"The ladies honey trapped him and sought data from him. The soldier shared categorized data associated to his regiment and movies associated to military train. He additionally obtained cash in lieu of it," he mentioned.

Rana has been posted within the Indian Military since March 2018.
