The Jharkhand authorities on Friday suspended Indian Administrative Service officer Syed Riaz Ahmed, who was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a trainee Indian Institute of Know-how pupil.

Mr Ahmed, the Sub-Divisional Justice of the Peace (SDM) of Khunti, was arrested on Tuesday and despatched to judicial custody for 2 weeks after the engineering pupil filed a police criticism in opposition to him.

"Chief Minister Hemant Soren has given route to droop Syed Riaz Ahmed, posted as SDM Khunti. The SDM was charged with sexual harassment case," a press release issued by the Chief Minister's Workplace stated.
