The College Grants Fee (UGC) has amended its open and distance studying pointers to encourage extra overseas college students to enroll in UGC recognised on-line programmes via Ministry of Exterior Affairs (MEA) pushed initiatives.

The UGC (Open and Distance Studying Programmes and On-line Programmes) Second Modification Laws, 2022 have been notified within the gazette on July 18.

UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar stated that below the 2020 rules, ‘Passport’ was the one identifier for the Worldwide college students. “MEA noticed that many purposes had been being rejected resulting from both submission of expired passports or non-submission of passports. Accordingly, MEA requested UGC to think about ‘any nationwide Id with photograph’ and be exempted from the necessary requirement of Passport to be able to safe admission within the Indian College below the e- VidyaBharati (tele-education) mission,” Kumar stated.

The amended rules will now permits the overseas college students, who take admissions via MEA, to submit “any nationwide id with photograph of their nation of residence” for authentication.

The MEA provides scholarships to the African college students below the Middle’s e-VidyaBharati (tele-education) mission. The mission goals to supply not less than 15,000 scholarships to African college students over a interval of 5 years. The UGC acknowledged/entitled On-line Programmes are provided on e-VidyaBharati Portal and the scholars are admitted via MEA.

Kumar stated that the modification will solely be relevant for college kids enrolling on UGC platforms via MEA. “This Modification is anticipated to enhance the variety of enrolments of the Worldwide learners in on-line programmes,” he added.
