A Gujarat businessman allegedly misplaced Rs 2.69 crore in a 'sextortion' entice, a police official mentioned on Thursday.

"He paid the cash. Then the sufferer received calls from a pretend CBI official who demanded Rs 8.5 lakh to settle the case after claiming the lady's mom had approached the central probe company. He continued paying cash until December 15 until a pretend Delhi Excessive Court docket order stating the case had been closed made him suspicious," the official mentioned.

He then approached the Cyber Crime Department police station on January 10 and lodged a criticism towards 11 individuals claiming that they had extorted Rs 2.69 crore, the official added.

The FIR has been lodged underneath Indian Penal Code part 387 (extortion), 170 (impersonation as public servant), 465 (forgery) 420 (dishonest), and 120-b (legal conspiracy), amongst different offences, the official knowledgeable.

Nobody has been arrested within the case to date and a probe was underway, he added.
