Iran introduced Thursday the closure of a Tehran-based French analysis institute in protest towards cartoons of the Islamic republic's supreme chief Ayatollah Ali Khamenei printed by French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.

"In reviewing cultural relations with France and inspecting the potential of persevering with French cultural actions in Iran, the ministry is ending the actions of the French Institute for Analysis in Iran as a primary step," the Iranian international ministry stated in an announcement.
